NEW Draft Filters Added To Stathead

Posted by Jonah Gardner on July 18, 2023

Exciting news from your friends at Stathead! We've rolled out a new set of filters to the Season Finders on all of our sports. These filters allow you to explore the history of the draft in some exciting new ways!

To get to the new filters, go to the Player Season Finder in your sport of choice. In the Biographical Filters section, at the very bottom, you'll notice a new one called "Draft Status." If you click on it, you'll see this new filter.

Now, you may be wondering why we're making such a big deal about something that just gives you the option to sort between Drafted or Undrafted players. But if you click "Drafted," you'll see the real magic of this new filter.

From here, you can filter by any Draft Year, any Draft Round, any Draft Pick, or which team actually drafted the player, regardless of if the player ever actually played for that team. There are also advanced options that give you the ability to filter by college, as well as some sport-specific options. For example, in Baseball, there are options to filter by any of the pre-1986 draft types, as well as the ability to filter by which position the player was drafted as.

You can use these filters to answer a whole range of questions. For example:

How many players from Duke were drafted in the Top 10 in the NBA Draft?

What player drafted by the Braves had the most major league plate appearances?

What were the most home runs in a season by a #1 overall pick?

What were the most seasons with 1,000+ rushing yards by a player drafted in the 5th round or later?

Out of everyone taken in the 2010 NHL Draft, who had the most points in a single season?

What NBA team had the most #1 picks on it?
