Dan Hirsch joins Sports Reference today as a web developer. If you are a baseball fan, you likely know Dan's name from his work as the creator of The Baseball Gauge. At the Baseball Gauge, he's done a great deal to promote Negro League History, the History of Ballparks, and also the comparison of various sabermetric uber-stats. We are excited to have him on board. Dan lives in Omaha with his family and follows the Tampa Bay Rays and Florida Gators. He's on Twitter at @DanHirsch.

It's been a little under two months since we launched FBref and the response has been amazing. Thanks to all of you who have used the site, let us know how much you're enjoying it, and given us thoughtful feedback on how to improve it.
With the league seasons about to begin in Europe, we wanted to catch you up on the latest updates we've made to the site. Specifically, we've added coverage of three additional countries: Netherlands, Portugal, and Scotland. These additions have done a great deal to expand our site's depth and scope. For completists, FBref now has things like Luis Suarez's early career numbers with Ajax and Cristiano Ronaldo's age-17 season with Sporting CP. USMNT supporters will be able to check in on the progress of players like Matt Miazga, while those of you following the latest transfer rumors can check out rumored targets like Hirving Lozano. Lastly, with the update, our site features Hulk for the first time!
We're going to continue to roll out new countries throughout the rest of the summer, and we're also working on a lot of great features for the league season. In the meantime, if you have any feedback for us, we'd love to hear it! Send us a message through our feedback form or FBref's official Twitter account.

After a long journey, we're thrilled to announce that FBref.com, our website dedicated to world football, is going live today!
That's the TL;DR version of this blog post. However, we want to take this opportunity to explain the process that brought us here, why we're launching now, and where we hope to take the site going forward. Read the rest of this entry

1st February 2018
I'm pleased to welcome Jaclyn Mahoney and Jay Hutchinson to Sports Reference in the roles of Data Developer. They'll be working behind the scenes to make sure our data is accurate and updated in a timely manner. Their main focus, for now, will be helping us push FBref.com out the door this spring.
I've written a bit about them on our About Page.

On Friday, we moved all of the sites over to secure http (or https, more simply). Here's the Wikipedia explainer. Basically, this just means that the data between your computer and our browser is now encrypted, rather than plain text. You should now see "secure" and/or a lock in the address bar when you are on the site. We have never stored credit card information and still don't. All payments were always encrypted and handled by third parties, Paypal and Stripe.
We have not seen any issues surface in this switch, but if you do find something, we'd greatly appreciate you letting us know.

On the old version of the site on the front page, we placed the cursor into the search box automatically which could cause some issues if you had already scrolled down the page. Your browser would then be jerked back to the top of the page. On the site redesign, all you have to do is (once the page has loaded) hit the tab key one time and you'll be put into the search box. Lickety Split.

See SportsLogos.net for historical and current sports logos
Chris Creamer does amazing work at SportsLogos.net and I've been wanting to work with him for quite a while to put examples of past and current logos on our sites. So when our 2016 redesign got underway, we worked out an agreement that we could use copies of his aggregated logos on our site.
We also realize that many historical logos show offensive representations of various ethnic groups and peoples that were commonplace in their time and in American society. These representations are wrong now and were wrong then. We present them, as we do all of our facts, to educate and illuminate, and these prejudices have been an unfortunate part of the history of the sports we all enjoy and love.
Obviously, we do not own these logos and cannot give you permission to use them. We use them under a fair use argument. We use small resolution images, which do not impact the economic viability of the logos for their owners. And we provide them for educational purposes only. It's up to you to know the relevant intellectual property law and, since I'm not a lawyer, this is clearly not legal advice.
Enough with the disclaimers. Check out some old-time teams for some old-time logo goodness.
Update: on March 23, 2017, we decided to remove logos prior to the seasons for which we have logos. For example if no logo was shown for 1892 Beaneaters we displayed their 1900 logo. This is mostly an issue for MLB, but could also arise elsewhere.
