I am sad to announce that after six years, five websites, and hundreds of thousands of lines of code, my tenure at Sports Reference will come to an end this week. More information can be found on my new blog, Statitudes. Thanks to all of the users who have supported the sites that I ran.

Just a quick post to let you know that I have added rows to the the first stat table on each player page to note any gaps in the player's career. For example, here is Michael Jordan:

As you can see, Jordan's stints away from the game have been included in the table. In most cases we have been able to identify a reason the player did not play (injury, retirement, other league, etc.) and will note that in the row.

I have added pages with various regular season and postseason records for both individual players and teams to the leaders and records section. Links to these pages can be found on the main index of the leaders and records section. There is also a navigation bar at the top of each records page that will allow you to jump from one page to another. I have added a Team Score Finder to the Basketball-Reference.com Play Index. With this new tool you can answer questions like:

• What is the record for most points scored in the fourth quarter?
• How many teams have been held scoreless in an overtime period?
• What is the record for largest deficit overcome after three quarters?
• How many teams have blown a halftime lead of 25 or more points?
• What is the record for most points scored in a regulation game?

I am very close to having a complete set of proofed line scores (i.e., scoring by quarter) for the 1950-51 NBA season forward. By "proofed" I mean that I have verified that the line score total equals the team point total. There are almost 55,000 regular season and playoff games in that period, but I only have 21 12 issues that need to be resolved.

Today is the ninth anniversary of the launch of Basketball-Reference.com. BBR debuted as a standalone website on May 10, 2004, but of course it is now part of the Sports-Reference.com family of sites.

I still do 99 percent of the work on the site, so I take great pride in its growth over the years. How much has it grown? The site's traffic is now almost 400 percent higher than it was just five years ago.

That growth, of course, would not be possible without our dedicated users, so in addition to the birthday wishes I would also like to extend a warm thank you to everyone who has played a part in making this site what it is today.

I've made some updates to the NBL, D-League, and WNBA sections of Basketball-Reference.com:

• Each section now has a navigation bar near the top of every page, making it much easier to jump from one subsection to another.
• A subsection has been added to the WNBA section for WNBA coaches.
• Basic biographical information has been added for some WNBA players.
• Footnotes have been added to the NBL standings to note cases where franchises moved or folded, teams had forfeit wins or losses, etc.

Please let us know if you have any question or comments about these changes.

I have added a section to the site with National Basketball League (NBL) stats. The NBL was a professional basketball league that was founded in 1937 and merged with the Basketball Association of America (BAA) to form the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949. Several of the NBL's top players later played in the BAA/NBA, including George Mikan, Al Cervi, and Arnie Risen.

Keep in mind that the statistical record for the NBL was quite limited:

• Games played (G), field goals (FG), free throws (FT), and points (PTS) are available for all players, all seasons.
• Free throw attempts (FTA) are available for some players prior to the 1946-47 season and all players for the 1946-47, 1947-48, and 1949-49 seasons.

At some point I may try to add data from even more professional leagues, but given it's direct link to the NBA I thought the NBL was a good place to start. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments about this new addition to the site.

Here are a few odds & ends as we near the end of the week:

• Our old feedback system was causing us to be buried under an avalanche of spam, so we've started to use a common feedback system for all of our sites. Unfortunately this means that you'll have to jump through a few hoops in order to get your comments submitted, but it also makes it much more likely that we'll actually see and reply to your feedback. Thanks for your patience with this.
• We're frequently asked how to calculate individual offensive and defensive ratings, so Neil Paine has written a nice primer that I've posted on the site.
• I've added partial box scores for the 1963-64 season to the site, which means we now have 50 years of partial or full box scores in our database.
• Speaking of box scores, the Play Index (PI) tools have been updated to include all games from 1963-64 to present. That means you can now find things like the best scoring performances from 1969-70 to 1978-79, the longest streaks of 25 or more points from 1963-64 to 1968-69, and a list of head-to-head matchups between Oscar Robertson and Jerry West.
• If you're a fan of the NCAA tournament, consider checking out our printable game previews. They're handy to have by your side whether you're at the arena or watching on TV. And as a grad school alumnus and current season ticket holder, let me say one thing: Go Bucks!

About 14 months ago we announced that we had posted copies of every box score in NBA history. However, since these box scores were scans we could not create player game logs, compute player splits, etc. As we said in that post, it is our goal to one day have all of these games in a database-friendly format.

On that note, I'm happy to announce that the work for the 1964-65 to 1975-76 NBA seasons has been completed. Please take some time to check out the box scores, player and team game logs, and player and team splits for those seasons. Keep in mind that almost all of the scanned box scores are abbreviated (i.e., they only contain field goals, free throws, and points for the players), so there will be many missing values for each game.
