Basketball Reference is thrilled to announced that it has added arena information for every game in NBA (including BAA) and ABA history to the site. We believe this to be the first time this data has been compiled so comprehensively. It can be viewed on our league-wide schedule pages and also on our box scores, such as this one for a 76ers/Bullets game played at Boehm Junior High School in Yardley, PA.
We are excited for the many possibilities this data creates, such as splits by arena, arena records for every building in league history and Stathead searches by arena. We will be sure to announce any future developments on this front.
We would like to thank Todd Spehr for his dogged research and expertise in completing this project. Modern fans may not realize just how complicated early NBA schedules were with neutral-site games being common. Before Spehr began his work on this project, our NBA arenas data was only complete back until about the year 2000, so this work represents a substantial improvement.
Some of our favorite 'arenas' added as part of this update include:
Grosse Point High School in Michigan
Scranton Catholic Youth Center in Pennsylvania
Lima Senior High School in Ohio
Catalina High School in Arizona
Collingswood High School in New Jersey
Huntingburg High School in Indiana
New London High School in Connecticut
Lincoln High School in Philadelphia
North Side Gym at Elkhart High School in Indiana
Memorial Hall at Bethlehem High School in Pennsylvania
