Thanks to a recent updated provided to us by researchers extraordinaire Pete Palmer and Ken Pullis, Pro Football Reference now has team rushing attempts for almost every NFL game since 1940.

Here's a quick summary of the improvements made:

Year - Previous Missing Totals - Current Missing totals

1940 - 106 - 0

1941 - 110 - 0

1942 - 6 - 0

1943 - 0 - 0

1944 - 71 - 9

1945 - 80 - 8

In all, this updates over 300 team rushing attempt totals in 1940s NFL games. The coverage is 100% complete back to 1946.

The only missing figures between 1940 and 1945 are 17 games played by the 1944 and 1945 Boston Yanks (they were merged with the Brooklyn Tigers in 1945).

We hope to make several exciting new additions to PFR before next season, so keep your eyes peeled.
