How to Get More Manageable URLs in the Play Index

Posted by Jonah Gardner on July 24, 2017

Heavy Play Index users, especially those who try to share their findings, may have noticed that the URLs for Play Index queries tend to be very long and unwieldy. Here, for example, is the URL for a simple query of most HRs in a season:

As many an infomercial host has suggested, there simply has to be a better way. Fortunately, there is! Every Play Index tool has a button in the top right that says "Make Tiny URL"

If you click on that, the site will produce a significantly shortened URL, well within the character limits of any social media platform

Using a Tiny URL won't just make the link look better and be easier to share, it'll also save the query so people can refer back to it later. For baseball users, the list in the Tiny URL link will be visible to people who aren't subscribers to the Play Index, making this a much better option for sharing the stuff you find in there. Lastly, it eases the load on our servers, so we'd really appreciate it if you use this linking method!

Why did this site take out the week/game options for the football PI streak finder?

Things like "most consecutive week 1 wins" no longer can be searched!

Dave, thanks for your feedback. We recently made some behind the scenes changes to the Play Index and, when rolling out the new versions, some of these features didn't make it back in. I can definitely add that one to the list and we'll work on getting it added back!

Why do both streaks start on the same day? How is that possible?
