2017-18 NBA Free Agent Tracker Added

16th June 2017

In advance of July's NBA Free Agency season, we have added our 2017-18 NBA Free Agent Tracker, which we will keep updated (as best we can) as deals are agreed to and signed. The headliners of this year's free agency class are reigning champions Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, but something tells us they're not going anywhere.

Neutralized Baseball Stats Back and Better Than Ever

26th May 2017

When we launched our new site three months ago, one of the casualties was the neutralized stats tables we printed on player pages. Those tables were originally built using code that had grown increasingly unwieldy and were not something we'd be able to adequately maintain moving forward. That said, we're happy to announce that we have rebuilt these tables and added new features, as well.

Box Scores for Every Playoff Game in NHL History Added

15th May 2017

We're happy to announce that we have added box scores for every Stanley Cup Playoff game in NHL history (back to 1918) to Hockey Reference. With this addition, we've also been able to build game logs to player pages covering their entire postseason career. This has also allowed us to create cumulative box scores for every playoff series in history (for example, the 1975 Stanley Cup Final)

We have rolled out an update to our search function on Baseball Reference, Basketball Reference, Pro Football Reference and Hockey Reference. If you type "random" or "zz" into our search forms on those sites, you will be taken to a random page. We have also added a random page tool to the frivolities menus on those four sites (Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey).

NCAA Men’s Basketball All-Tournament Teams Added

31st March 2017

Since we now have most players who have participated in the NCAA Tournament in our database, we thought it would be good to add All-Tournament teams to College Basketball Reference. So we've added these teams to our college basketball Awards section. This team was originally named in 1940 (the 2nd NCAA Tournament), and was then discontinued for 1941-51. It has been awarded every year since 1952. We've included tournament scoring stats for each player awarded, as well as other stats when fully available. Jerry Chambers's 35.8 PPG in the 1966 tournament for Utah represents the highest scoring average for an all-tournament selection, while Jim Thomas's 4.6 PPG for 1981 Champs Indiana represents the lowest. This list complements our previously existing list of NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Players.

We hope you enjoy this addition. And keep an eye out for NCAA Tournament All-Regional teams in the future.

College Basketball Leaderboards Extended Back to 1985-86

20th March 2017

Thanks to the addition of nearly 50 seasons of historical player statistics, we have extended our statistical leaderboards for several categories through the beginning of the shot-clock era (1985-86). These categories include games, field goals, field goal attempts, free throws, free throw attempts, total rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and points (as well as their "per game" versions). Additionally, we have extended all 3-point shooting leaderboards back through 1986-87, which was the season the NCAA adopted the shot.

Automatic Excel Export Added Back to Tables

14th March 2017

In November, we announced that we were no longer able to support automatic export of our tables to Excel. This was due to newer browsers not behaving in ways we expected, making it difficult to support the feature. We're happy to announce that we've figured this out, however.

Today, the automatic Excel export feature has returned to all of our sites. To export any of our tables to Excel, please hover over "Share & more" above the table you'd like to export. Once you hover, you'll see a dropdown where you can select "Get as Excel Workbook (experimental)", which will download the table into an xls file you can open with Excel.
