Summary

The result of the men’s windsurfing event was almost a repeat of the 2012 result. Gold and silver again went respectively to [Dorian van Rijsselberge] from the Netherlands and [Nick Dempsey] of Britain. Both dominated the regatta and had secured their respective medals prior to the medal race. Van Rijsselberge, born on the Dutch island of Texel, won seven of the 12 races, a sixth place in the last race was his excluded score. Dempsey won three of the preliminary races and was in the lead after five races. But with an eighth place as his excluded score he was not able to counter the Dutchman’s winning streak in the later races. In the medal race, both consolidated their position with van Rijsselberge in first place and Dempsey in fourth. Much tighter was the race for the bronze medal. This was clinched by France’s [Pierre Le Coq] with a seventh place in the medal race compared to the ninth of Poland’s [Piotr Myszka], and the two-point advantage was good enough for bronze.
