Summary

After Great Britain became the first nation to defeat Germany or West Germany in Olympic competition for 40 years in front of their home crowd at London 2012, things reverted to normal in 2016 with a clear win for the German team. Led by 47-year-old [Isabell Werth], who won the sixth gold medal of her Olympic career, the Germans filled three of the four places in the individual standings and took the title by more than three percentage points ahead of the Brits. The Netherlands were expected to challenge for a medal but an injury to their top horse allowed the USA to win bronze.
