Summary

Just before the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics, the event lost one of the seeded fighters in the division when [Michael O’Reilly] tested positive for a banned diuretic.

This helped leave the field clear for [Arlen López] of Cuba to breeze through the competition.

Compatriots [Robeisy Ramírez] and [Julio César La Cruz] had already taken gold for Cuba earlier in the tournament so López provided the third gold for the Caribbean nation when he outpointed 20-year-old Uzbek [Bektemir Melikuziev] to claim the Olympic title.

Lopez, the 2015 world champion, was a fighter who was equally adept at fighting on the inside or at long range and showed great balance and accuracy.
