The program for taekwondo in 2008 was the same as in 2000 and 2004, with four events for men and women. However, as in 2004 and 2008, each nation was limited to only four entrants, two men and two women. The 2008 taekwondo tournament was held at the Beijing Science and Technology University gymnasium.

Korea dominated once again, as expected since the sport was invented in Korea, winning four gold medals in the four events in which they could compete. The United States was the only nation to win three medals, all by the Lopez siblings – [Steven] , [Mark] , and [Diana]. Mexican taekwondoka also won two gold medals.
