North Korean [Kim Il-Ong] had lost in the final of the 1991 World Championships to Bulgarian [Vugar Orudzhov]. Because wrestling does not seed the competitors they met in the first round of Group B, with Kim winning this time, 9-5. He went thru Group B undefeated and then met his Korean counterpart, [Kim Jong-Sin], in the final match, which resulted in a 4-1 victory for Kim – Kim Il-Ong, that is. In 1996 he would defend his Olympic title, even though he had not been allowed to compete internationally from 1993-95, because of North Korean travel and financial restrictions. Despite his first round loss, Orudzhov went undefeated for the rest of the tournament and won the bronze medal by defeating Romanian [Romica Raşovan], 2-1.
