Summary

The world record had been set in July 1928 by Canada’s [Myrtle Cook] in winning the Canadian Championship in 12.0. A few weeks before America’s [Betty Robinson], only a 16-year-old, had run 12.0 at a meet in Chicago but the mark was never ratified as a world record. In the final, Cook and Germany’s [Leni Schmidt] were disqualified for false started. This left the race open for Robinson to win in 12.2, equaling the listed world record.
