Jerzy Zaruba was a famous painter and graphic artist, but mostly known as a cartoonist. He was also a graphic artist, stage scene designer, author of satirical drawings, political crèches, and an illustrator for books and magazines. He graduated from the Warszawa School of Art and the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Zaruba made his début as a caricaturist in the humor magazine, MarchoÅt. In later years, his drawings and essays appeared in many other magazines. He also worked intensively in the field of advertising graphics, and was a co-founder of Wheels Advertising Graphic, a professional organization of artists engaged in commercial art. Today, Zaruba is now remembered more as the author of excellent pre-war articles, and his superb book illustrations.
