William Wilson was a Scottish stained glass artist, printmaker and watercolor painter. He worked as a map-maker before joining the stained-glass studio of James Ballantine and Son in 1920. Wilson attended evening classes at Edinburgh College of Art, where he began making prints. He traveled on a scholarship across Europe before continuing his studies at the Royal College of Art in London. Skilled as a draughtsman, his celebration of everyday life that one sees in his prints can also be found in his stained-glass windows. Since 1937, Wilson ran his own studio in Edinburgh. During his career he produced over 300 windows, for churches, cathedrals, and secular buildings all over Scotland.
