Biography

German sculptor Harold Winter was the brother of painter Rolf Winter. Their father Heinrich, whose focus was on horses, was also a well-known painter. Harold Winter studied four years at the Städel School in Frankfurt am Main and then went to Paris in 1908 to the Académie Rancon, where he was taught by Aristide Maillol. Winter designed the Goethe plaque and the memorial plaque for the Baron Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom Stein (1931) at St. Paul’s Church and the Youth Hostels fountain.
