Peter Vermes played one year of college soccer at Loyola University in Maryland and then his final three years (1985-87) at Rutgers University. He played for the USA National Team from 1988-97, earning 67 caps. Internationally he played at the 1988 Olympics, the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the 1989 World Futsal Championship.
After college Vermes had a long professional career, playing in the US and Europe. He started with the New Jersey Eagles in 1988, and then played in Hungary with RÃ¡ba ETO FC and the Netherlands with Volendam. He played in Spain from 1991-95 with UE Figueres, but played in the US in the 1990s with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, the New York Fever, the MetroStars, and the Colorado Rapids. He finished his playing career from 2000-02 with the Kansas City Wizards.
Vermes then went into coaching, becoming technical director of the Wizards, later renamed Sporting Kansas City, in 2006. In 2009 he was named head coach of Kansas City. He has also coached the USA U-20 National Team, and was technical director of coaching for the Blue Valley Soccer Club in Overland Park, Kansas. Vermes also did some broadcasting for the San JosÃ© Earthquakes.
