German painter and graphic artist Hermann Teuber studied at the Art Academy in Dresden and later at the Art Academy in Berlin. In 1938 he was declared a degenerate artist by the Nazi dictatorship. Shortly before the war end of World War II Teuber’s studio was destroyed in Berlin. After being drafted into military service he was captured by US soldiers, but was released from captivity in 1945 and moved to Kalkar on the Lower Rhine. Teuber mainly produced woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, lithographs and oil on wood. In 1950 he became a professor at the Art Academy in Berlin, and in 1961 Teuber retired to live in Bavaria.
