At the 1936 Berlin Olympics Japanese painter Sujaku Suzuki won a bronze medal for his work Classical Horse Racing in Japan in the Art Competitions in the category Paintings, Drawings and Water Colors. His real name was Kotaro. He studied under Noda Kyuura and attended the Kawabata Painting School. In 1920 he was accepted for the 2nd Emperor’s Exhibition. He mainly produced woodblock prints, serigraphs (silkscreens), watercolors, and lithographs. Many of his works were used as books and magazines illustrations, his preferred motifs were historical figures. He died of cerebral hemorrhage. His brother Hisao was also a painter.
