Werner Spannagel won his 1932 first round flyweight contest with a points win over [Juan José Trillo] from Argentina, but lost the quarter-final on points against [Louis Salica] from the US, who went on to win the bronze medal. Spannagel was the German bantamweight champion in 1932 and flyweight champion the following year. He was killed-in-action in 1943 at the Eastern Front during World War II, with his death being reported on 23 December 1943.
