RÃ³bert SÃ¶ptei started canoeing in 1941. He won five Hungarian championships after 1945, as a member of sportclub KASE. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics SÃ¶ptei finished seventh in C2-10K alongside his brother [ErnÅ SÃ¶ptei]. RÃ³bert also achieved success as a coach of high-level athletes, such as the Olympic champion and later national coach [JÃ¡nos Parti], Ferenc Major, and PÃ©ter PovÃ¡zsay, who was the 1975 World Champion. As a coach SÃ¶ptei took part in three Olympics, those of 1960, 1964, and 1972.
