Biography

From 1916-21 Swiss Frédéric Schmied studied sculpture design at the École des Beaux-Arts in Genève. Initially, he had worked as a trained architectural draftsman. Supported by public scholarships, he made various study trips abroad. Since 1931 he resided in Genève. He mainly produced statues and sculptures of torsos, busts, animals and nudes. Schmied primarily used materials such as marble, bronze and stone, emphasizing the power of volition and physical strength.
