Biography

Cindy Ryder was a Bucknell graduate who was a gold medalist in single sculls at the 1991 Pan American Games. She started at Bucknell on the cross-country team but took up rowing in her sophomore year. She competed in double sculls at the 1992 Olympics, alongside [Mary Mazzio], but again rowed the single at the 1993 World Championships. Ryder, later Cindy Matthes, became an elementary school teacher in Lincoln, Massachusetts, with a specialty in teaching IT and computer science. She and Mazzio continued to compete together at the annual Head of the Charles regatta, doing so continuously from 1992 into the 2010s.
