Hans-JÃ¼rgen RÃ¼ckborn came in eighth at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the triple jump. At the European Championships he earned a silver in 1966 and finished ninth in 1962. RÃ¼ckborn also won the 1965 European Cup and was runner-up two years later. Domestically he was East German Champion in 1961, 1963, 1965, also winning indoors in 1966-67. His son JÃ¼rgen became a hammer thrower.
Hans-JÃ¼rgen RÃ¼ckborn became one of the most influential sports officials in the Track and Field Association of the former GDR. He was Chairman of the Commission on Culture and Education (1974-1978); Chairman of the Legal Commission (1978-1984); and Treasurer (1984-90). It is unknown what became of him after German reunification.
