Christian Rudolph, a 400 hurdler, could not finish the semifinals at the 1972 MÃ¼nchen Olympics when he tore his Achilles tendon just before the finish, which led to his immediate retirement. Before the Olympics he earned a silver medal at the 1971 European Championships and came in fourth one year earlier at the European Cup. Rudolph was East German Champion in 1970-72. He was a high school teacher for sports and law in Cottbus.
