Joe Ravannack was from New Orleans and, together with [John Wells], rowed for the Independent Rowing Club at the 1904 Olympics. He was later captain of the Southern Rowing and Canoe Club, and a member of the Young Men’s Gymnastic Club. Ravannack worked in business for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, a local newspaper. He was also a member of the Fireman’s Benevolent and Charitable Association and of the St. Rose de Lima Conference of St. Vincent de Paul.
