Biography

Daniele Pellissier came from the Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps and competed as a cross-country skier in the 1924 Olympics and as a member of the military ski patrol in 1928. In the latter year he finished third in the 35 km cross-country at the Italian Championships. He later became a well-known mountain climber and guide. In 1935, Pellissier and Alpine skier [Rolando Zanni] were co-founders of the local ski school. In 1953, Daniele and his brother Jean Pellissier received the “Award of Alpine Solidarity”. Two years later, Daniele made the national news, when he found and rescued a homeless cat on the Matterhorn summit.
