Biography

Marcia Pankratz played hockey for the US at the 1988 and 1996 Olympics. She also won silver medals at the 1987 and 1995 Pan American Games. Pankratz was capped 110 times in international play. She also competed at the 1996 Champions Trophy, the 1986 and 1994 World Cups, and at three US Olympic Festivals, in 1985, 1987, and 1989.

Pankratz played in college at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1986. In 1986 she was given the Big 10 Medal of Honor as the university's top graduating senior student-athlete. Pankratz led the Hawkeyes to the 1984 NCAA finals, losing to Old Dominion, but she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team.

After retiring as a player, Pankratz went into coaching. She became head coach at the University of Michigan in 1996, serving in that role through 2004, and leading the Wolverines to the 2001 NCAA title. She then took a hiatus from coaching, but return to Ann Arbor in 2009 to again became head coach at Michigan. She was named Big 10 Coach of the Year in 1997, 2000, 2002, 2010 and 2011. Pankratz was inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004.
