Related Olympians: Son of Ken Okada.
Tony Okada placed third at the 1990 and 1991 US Nationals, but then made the Olympic team in 1992. Okada was taught by his father, [Ken Okada], a 1972 judo Olympian for the USA, who had learned the sport from his father, Ted Okada. Tony Okada won the 1991 US International Invitational and was a three-time US Senior Champion.
Okada was a wrestling star in high school, although he always preferred judo. He attended San José State University to train in judo under Yosh Uchida, choosing that school over possible wrestling scholarships elsewhere. In college, he was a four-time collegiate champion. Okada later became a sensei, running Orange County Kodokan Judo.
