Biography

Gerd Nagel did not qualify for the high jump final at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and he finished 14th at the 1987 World Championships. He also participated in the 1981 World Cup, placing second, and at the European Cups in 1981 (second), and 1987 (fifth). His best international results were a bronze medal at the 1982 Europeans, a silver medal at the 1983 European Indoors, adding a bronze in 1990.

In 1979 Nagel was a competitor at the international meeting in Eberstadt, when he, [Carlo Thränhardt], and [Dietmar Mögenburg] improved the German record from 2.26 to 2.30, the first international competition with three high jumpers over 2.30. The same year Nagel earned his only West German title, but he also had six more podiums. In 1982 and 1983 he was also German indoor champion. Nagel was educated as a pastry cook, but later owned a fitness studio in his hometown Sulingen.
