John Muldoon graduated from Santa Clara in 1919. In 1920 he, [John O'Neil], [Jim Fitzpatrick], and [Rudy Scholz] became the first alums from that school to win an Olympic gold medal. As a hobby, Muldoon later coached several rugby clubs near Napa, California. He and Jack Dana ran the Dana Garage in Napa. Muldoon’s brother, Bill, was an alternate on the 1920 US Olympic rugby team.
