Biography

Robert Merz began high-level football in Austria with Währing in 1902, before joining Schwerathletik Wiener Sportvereinigung in 1904. He helped that club win a Challenge Cup against Magyar AC that year. In 1907 he joined the Jewish club DFC Praha, and he earned his first international cap with them in a match in June 1908 against England. Merz eventually earned 13 international caps, scoring 5 goals in those matches. In 1914 he was commissioned as a lieutenant with Infantry Regiment Nr. 28, but he was killed in action while fighting in Poturzyn, Poland on 30 August 1914.
