Biography

Alphonse Meignant did his national service with the 31e Bataillon de Chasseurs à Pied from 1903-05. He later became a top rower, competing for Société Nautique de Bayonne, and racing at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics in coxed fours. In August 1914 Meignant was called up to his old regiment as a private second class. He was killed during the First Battle of Ypres in November 1914.
