Biography

During a sailing career that lasted fully 50 years, John MacKenzie won more than 250 prizes, many wins coming on his 18-foot yacht Florence. He was a member of many of the leading Scottish clubs, including the Royal Clyde Yacht Club, and crewed aboard [Thomas Glen-Coats]’ Hera in the 12-metre class at the 1908 Olympics. In 1891 Mackenzie was appointed the official Clyde measurer to assess handicaps based on boats’ size etc.
