Dogomar Martínez competed as a middleweight boxer at the 1948 Olympics for Uruguay. Martínez was a three-time South American light-heavyweight champion. He turned professional in 1951 and fought through 1959, winning 49 bouts (21 by KO), losing 3, with 5 draws. His most memorable bout came in December 1953 when he fought world light-heavyweight champion Archie Moore, losing in a 10-round decision in a non-title bout. Martínez defeated renowned professional champion Kid Gavilan in 1955. Martínez fought exclusively in South America, mostly in his native Uruguay. In 2006 Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez appointed Martínez to be director of the Knock Out Against Drugs program. In 2008 Martínez was made an honorary president of the Uruguayan Federation of Boxing.
