Biography

Goalkeeper Alfred Lücker played field hockey for ETUF Essen. For the German national team he won 27 international caps between 1952-60 including his participation in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Germany lost to the Netherlands 0-1 in the quarter-final and the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, when Lücker won a surprise bronze medal after Germany beat Great Britain 3-1 in the third place match. He was also a member of the West German team that won the unofficial European Championships in 1954. He later played golf and was also an honorary president of his home club ETUF.
