Renee Laravie was a breaststroker who swam at the 1976 Olympics just before her senior year in high school. She attended the University of Florida, where she was a 10-time All-American and won three individual AIAW titles in breaststroke and individual medley, adding two more AIAW titles in the 4x200 free relay. Laravie led Florida to the 1979 AIAW team championships. She was named Athlete of the Year at Florida as a sophomore and in 1978 received the Broderick Award as College Swimmer of the Year. Laravie later became a firefighter and paramedic with the Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department. She is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
