Biography

Michelle Knox-Zaloom went to George Washington University, where she played both volleyball and rowed crew. She was GW’s volleyball MVP in 1985 and was twice named All-Conference in volleyball. Knox-Zaloom competed at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics as a rower, won a bronze medal in quad sculls at the 1993 World Championships, and won a 1991 Pan American Games gold in quad sculls, adding a a Pan Am silver in 1995 in the double sculls.

Knox-Zaloom obtained a masters’ degree in public administration from George Washington. She then began working in government with the US General Accountability Office from 1990-97, before becoming an investigator with the US House Appropriations Committee Surveys and Investigations Staff in 1997-98. She became President of the National Recreation Education Foundation, starting in 2010. She has also served as a Vice-President at East End Rowing, the Executive Director of the Sea Tow Foundation for Boating Safety and Education, and the Executive Director at the Hallockville Museum Farm. In 1996 Knox-Zaloom became the first woman inducted into the George Washington Athletic Hall of Fame.
