Swedish sculptor Gustav Arvid Knöppel was the son of Olympic sports shooter [Johan Arvid Knöppel] and his wife Cecilia Elsbeth Schultz, who was a Swedish sculptor, draftswoman, printmaker, writer and painter. Gustav Arvid studied in the 1920s at the Academy of Art in Stockholm, München, Italy and Switzerland. He was best known for his works for churches and crematoriums in Stockholm and Karlstad and his animal sculptures and portrait busts. Knöppel owned a reserve of Scandinavian wildlife, and is primarily known for sculptures of animals and animal drawings, which were noted for their realism and impressionism.
