Biography

Fred Kahele swam the 400 and 1,500 freestyles at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics, finishing an unfortunate fourth in both events. He finished fourth in 400 free and third in the 1,500 free at the 1920 US Olympic Trials. Kahele was a native of Hawai’i. He represented the US Navy when he competed in 1920. We have not positively identified him but think he may have lived in Oakland, California in the 1920s, and played guitar with the Mid-Pacific Quartet.
