Biography

Maybe due to his premature death, Hoka Iwabuchi could never outclass his teacher Yamaguchi Hoshun, but in the world of modern Japanese painting he still has a certain status. He participated in the Emperor’s Exhibition and various other exhibitions and later also became a member of juries judging Japanese paintings. In 1950 he was awarded Takamatsu Nomiya CEO Award. The Japanese painter Matsubayashi Keigetsu called him Japans last literary painter. He also attended regularly exhibitions in Taiwan.
