In August 1962 House broke world records in both the 800 freestyle – 9:51.6 in 16 August – and 1,500 freestyle – 18:44.0 on 26 August. She swam for the Los Angeles Athletic Club in 1960, and later swam for Southern Cal. House is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame. She was the daughter of Howard House, MD, a renowned otolaryngologist in Los Angeles.
