Biography

Jan Harville started at the University of Washington in 1970, rowing for them from 1970-73 and winning an AIAW silver medal in pairs in 1972. She was on the US national team from 1978-84, competing at the World Championships in 1978-79 and 1982-83. Harville made the ill-fated 1980 US Olympic team. She earned her college degree from Washington in 1974 in medical technology and worked as a microbiologist at Seattle’s Northwest Hospital from 1974-80. In 1980 she was named an assistant coach at Washington, and became head coach in 1988. She coached the Huskies crew teams through 2003, winning NCAA titles in 1997, 1998, and 2001. She was a nine-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year and in 2002 was national rowing coach of the year. Harville also coached US teams at the World Championships from 1987-99.
