Biography

After competing as a gymnast at the 1908 Olympics, Carl HÃ¥rleman competed in his best event, the pole vault, at the 1912 Olympics, but failed to get out of the qualifying round. In 1913 HÃ¥rleman placed second at the British AAA meet (to teammate [Clas Gille]). He kept improving during the war years and in 1917 set a Swedish record with 3.883, also winning the Swedish title that year. HÃ¥rleman was from a noble family and later worked for an insurance company, served in the Army as a captain, and served as secretary-general of several sports associations.
