Austrian Jewish architect Hugo Gorge was an employee at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, and is regarded as one of the early representatives of modernism in Vienna. His design was characterized by its simplicity, renouncing ornamental forms. His wife had to immigrate together with her three children to London in 1938 to escape Nazi terrorism.
