Biography

Tracey Fuchs had a long career on the US National Team. She played at the 1988 and 1996 Olympics, but also won five medals at the Pan American Games – silvers in 1987, 1995, 1999, and 2003; and a bronze in 1991. Fuchs also won a bronze medal at the 1994 World Cup, and a gold medal at the 2002 World Cup. She was USA Field Hockey’s Athlete of the Year in 1990 and 1995. During her international career, Fuchs earned 268 caps.

Fuchs played at the University of Connecticut, where she helped them win the NCAA title as a sophomore. She was a three-time All-American and in 1987 won the Honda-Broderick Award as the nation’s top collegiate player.

Fuchs later went into coaching, becoming assistant coach at the University of Michigan in 1996. In 12 years there, she helped them win two NCAA titles. In 2009 Fuchs took over as head coach at Northwestern, where she quickly turned them into a national power. She also served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2011 Pan American Games, where they won the gold medal. Fuchs was inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.
