Biography

Ryusei Furukawa learned the art of woodcutting while serving as a junior high school teacher. In 1934, the graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts School participated in the Japan Contemporary Prints Exhibition; the work is now in the permanent collection of the National Library in Paris. After World War II, Furukawa became a board member of the Shun'yō-kai group of artists and produced landscape paintings. Furukawa’s prints especially pursued the possibility of color representation.
