West German long distance runner Horst Flosbach placed eighth in the 1960 final over 5000 m at the Rome Olympics as the third best German behind [Hans Grodotzki] and [Friedrich Janke], although he had won his heat. This was his only international major event. His two domestic titles were in 1961 in cross-country and in 1964 over 10,000 m. He was educated as a textile engineer. In his youth he has been a football player and wanted to become a cyclist, but his parents would not buy him a racing bicycle.

Personal Best: 5000 – 13:52.4 (1961).
