Jan and football and cricket player [Constant Feith] were brothers. From 1899-1904 Jan was chairman of the Amsterdam Hockey & Bandy Club and was an avid amateur athlete. He published mostly under the pseudonym Chris Kras. Although he wrote his books especially for boys, his main focus was journalism, in which he devoted himself to difficult issues such as increasing crime, the fate of vulnerable young people, sick and neglected children. Feith later wrote for and about sport in India. In 1892, he was part of a Dutch team that won a bicycle road race against England.
