Born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, Jeff Durgan turned professional after high school and played most of his career with the New York Cosmos. In 1981 he was selected as North American Soccer League (NASL) Rookie of the Year. He helped the Cosmos to win the Soccer Bowl, the NASL Championship, in both 1980 and 1982. In 1984 Durgan was recruited by USA Soccer to form a national team in the NASL, Team America, and he played with them for one year, after which the team disbanded. After playing another year with the Cosmos Durgan joined FC Seattle and then retired after the 1985 season. He then attended the University of Washington and earned his bachelor’s degree, with he and his family then settling in Michigan. During his career he earned seven caps with the US National Team between 1983-85.
